Do you know your ATA Carnets from your EUR1s? Your GMRs from your COOs?

We made this quick guide so that you can easily find the custom term you’re looking for - and its meaning.

Here’s what you need to know.

ATA Carnet

If you are repeatedly moving the same professional/exhibition equipment over a period of 12 months, then you could be eligible for an ATA Carnet.

Valid for customers repeatedly moving goods to countries that are part of the ATA system, an ATA Carnet is a “passport for goods” that reduces the amount of paperwork you need to provide.

At Reload, our cost-effective customs solution is fast and reliable. Get in touch with us to enquire about our ATA Carnet service.

COO

A COO (or Certificate of Origin) provides important information about the production process of goods being exported from the UK.

Simply put, a COO can be used to confirm that the goods originated in the UK, and it is often a mandatory requirement; as customs authorities in the importing country will need to determine the trade requirements of your goods and the correct preferential tariff rates (if applicable).

ENS

An ENS, or entry summary declaration, is a customs document containing information that allows border authorities to deduce the level of risk posed by your goods to their territory.

From October 2024, S&S GB ENS will be a mandatory requirement for GB imports from the EU.

Meanwhile, from 2025, EU importers will need to provide additional information when submitting their ENS as ICS2 is deployed.

This additional information for your EU import ENS includes: a 6-digit HS commodity code, EORI number and countries of routing.

Sounds confusing? It doesn’t have to be.

EUR1

Exporting preferential goods? You could benefit from an EUR1.

Often referred to as a “Movement Certificate”, an EUR1 document enables businesses to declare goods for preferential tariff treatment - provided that the goods are eligible under a trade agreement between GB and certain partner countries.

An EUR1 is therefore used in international trade and allows for reduced or zero customs duties.

Fiscal customs

Fiscal customs allows you to complete your customs paperwork without asking your buyers for more information.

With our fiscal customs clearance offering, remaining customs compliant has never been easier.

We’ll handle the customs on both ends and help you open an EU office using your EU VAT number and EORI number. This will allow your EU office to be listed as the ‘importer of record’ in your commercial invoice, allowing you to ship your goods without bothering buyers with the hassle of customs.

So, you can enjoy stress-free customs, and your buyers can, too.

GMR

A GMR or ‘Goods Movement Reference’ number combines MRNs (or ‘multiple declaration reference’ numbers) into a single GMR.

A GMR is a mandatory requirement for moving goods through UK ports. Without a GMR, you could face delays at the port.

Transit

Can you suspend customs duties?

Transit declarations permit the movement of non free-moving goods within the UK or the EU, and they allow customs duties or other fees to be suspended at the same time.

There are two transit declaration primary classifications - T1 and T2.

Learn more about T1 and T2 transit declarations in our dedicated guide.
