Don't worry, you wouldn't be wasting our time if you needed us to transport some baled plastic or cardboard - but that's enough of the puns for now...
Since the start of 2017 we have seen a steady rise in the amount of waste we are now carrying for our customers, and it has become a big percentage of our workload now with loads going all around Europe. Having spoken to industry experts, the market does fluctuate rather dramatically so if you're thinking of going into the business of buying and selling waste, then that is something to consider.
Transporting it however, is fairly straight-forward but there is paperwork involved, forwarders and hauliers must hold a valid waste carriers licence issued in the country they are based. So if a Polish haulier holds a licence for example, it transfers to all European countries so they are permitted to load and unload all over the continent. Another thing to ensure is that when making a waste collection, you receive an Annex VII document from the site before your driver leaves, the form details what is being transported and is kept by the person arranging the shipment as an audit trail.
The Republic of Ireland does have a slightly different ruling which you must be aware of, if you are collecting from there your haulier must have an official document issued by the National Waste Collection Permit Office (NWCPO). If collection is being made, and the haulier doesn't hold a permit and is pulled over whilst travelling through Ireland then it could incur huge fines for all parties involved. The NWCPO has a handy Permit Checker which lists all haulage companies that are valid, which is good peace of mind before you arrange transport for your customer.
