Despite their rapidly growing popularity, there are still many misconceptions about electric vehicles.
But which are the most common, and do they hold any weight?
Let’s find out.
Costs
While EV's often cost more to purchase, according to recent studies they can save drivers £176 in running costs for every 1,000 miles driven - and that's just for non-commercial vehicles.
The truth is that in the long-term, electric HGV’s, lorries and vans could end up doing more than reducing your business’ carbon footprint, they could also save you money.
Battery life
"Going electric" sounds tempting for many, but a major factor that can deter people from making the change is concerns around the battery life of electric vehicles.
After all, nobody wants to get stuck on the M6 - especially not in these high temperatures.
But your electric vehicle could take you further than you think, with many car models available with a 200+ mile range.
Meanwhile, other companies are developing HGV's, lorries and vans that can travel upwards of 600 miles without charging.
Environmental concerns
One of the primary concerns around electric vehicles is that, when taking into consideration the amount of emissions generated from electricity production, they may have a similarly negative impact on the environment as their predecessor, petrol.
However, since 1990, the amount of greenhouse gas emitted by the UK's electricity system has been reduced by more than 70%.
In fact, renewable and nuclear energy sources currently provide over 50% of our electricity.
By 2035, all of our electricity will come from low carbon sources, according to current UK Gov plans and subject to security of supply.
Is the future of logistics electric?
Our industry is changing.
While Brexit has brought many complications, especially with customs, now more than ever the haulage industry needs to focus on innovations that make life easier.
All of the UK’s favourite HGV and van manufacturers look set to help revolutionise the way we conceive electric transport, making long journeys and heavy loads easier to manage.
